DSP Update 10-22-26

The union and the state met yesterday in Wilmington for our first mediation session. The mediator listened to both sides explain their proposals, and we went through everything on the table.

Unfortunately, there was no movement. With the mediator in the room, the state seemed more willing to listen, but listening needs to lead to action. They repeatedly told us they hear us. Until we see some movement, it is hard to feel that they do.

We are scheduled to meet again on Friday, November 6, for our second mediation session. I hope to have something positive to share after that meeting.

I know this is frustrating. It is frustrating for your bargaining team too, and it feels like the state is dragging its feet. There are nine other contracts currently in mediation between the state and other unions. I have spoken with those union presidents, and they are expressing the same frustrations.

Please stay positive and keep showing your support. Wearing red on Thursdays and putting up posters saying we deserve a fair contract may seem like small things, but they get noticed and go a long way. Your bargaining team appreciates everyone standing together as we continue pushing for the contract you deserve.
