Broadband Build
Today, we’re proud to share that Delaware is on track to become the first state in the nation fully connected to high-speed internet under the BEAD program—and CWA Local 13101 has played a pivotal role in making this happen.
For years, we’ve worked tirelessly with our state representatives to ensure this groundbreaking project becomes a reality. The announcement from Governor Bethany Hall-Long, DTI, and the Delaware Broadband Office confirms that construction will begin in the spring of 2025 to expand broadband service to more than 5,700 unserved and underserved homes and businesses across the state.
This is huge for our members, especially downstate! While upstate areas have seen steady fiber work, this project brings much-needed opportunities to Kent and Sussex Counties, where fiber buildout has been limited.
We’re confident that Verizon, one of the two providers selected for the project (alongside Comcast), will receive the majority of this work. This means more jobs for our members and a brighter future for Delaware’s working families.
Highlights of the project:
- $17.4 million in federal BEAD funding for broadband expansion.
- Nearly $90 million in private funding from service providers.
- Deployment will connect 5,721 addresses in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties.
- Work is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
CWA has been at the forefront of this effort, advocating for our members and ensuring that Delaware remains a leader in digital infrastructure. This wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of our union, state leadership, and the support of President Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure , championed by Delaware’s congressional delegation.
We’ll be sharing more details as final numbers are released, but for now, this is a moment to celebrate. Let’s continue to build on this momentum and ensure that CWA Local 13101 members remain at the heart of Delaware’s progress.
Stay tuned for updates—and thank you for your hard work and dedication to our shared mission!
